Public Forum Debate
Event Description:
These instructions will appear on all judge ballots for Public Forum Debate:
Public Forum Debate features two-person teams debating the merits of a resolution, with one team in favor and the other team opposed. A coin flip will determine which team is for or against the resolution; this is done electronically before the round, and the ballot should show which team is on which side, as well as which team is speaking first. If the ballot you have shows different sides and/or speaking order than the ones the competitors say they're on, contact Mr. Hill (208) 881-4448 BEFORE allowing the debate to start.
Debaters should be courteous to one another and to judges. The teams should give substantial reasoning and evidence to prove their side is valid, each team has a total of 4 min prep time. New arguments should not be introduced in the summary speech or the Final Focus speeches, but the summary speech can contain new evidence to bolster a previous argument.
Here is what you should look out for:
-
Evidence(should be cited)
-
Sound reasoning behind arguments
-
Structure/Organization
-
