Event Description:
These instructions will appear on all judge ballots for Poetry:
Time Limit:
5-10 minutes with a 30 second grace period (Anything over results in the student being scored one rank less than they would have been otherwise).
Description of Event:
Poetry is a recitation of a single, or a collection of poetry (NOT original work; MUST be published). The student should be able to interpret and express the poetry in a moving manner. Poetry must be introduced using an introduction that identifies the authors and titles of their pieces. This introduction generally follows a brief prologue. Poetry must be presented with a black poetry binder. Student must be in control of the book, however opening and closing the book for effect or transition is allowed. Performers may not use other props or visuals. It is strongly encouraged poetry be memorized.
