Policy Debate
Event Description:
These instructions will appear on all judge ballots for Policy Debate:
Policy Debate (AKA Cross Examination Debate, or CX for short) is a highly evidence based debate. The affirmative side will present a plan that aligns with the resolution/topic. The negative will construct counter arguments against the affirmative.
Aff(Affirmative Team) must show the following:

Harms: Aff team must show the existing harms during the status quo

Inherency: Aff team must show that action called for the resolution cannot be solved during status quo

Solvency: Aff team must show that the action called is capable of solving the problems identified

Desirability: Aff team must show that advantages of their plan outweigh any other

Topicality: Aff team must show their plan meets all general requirements of the resolution
-Evidence (every argument should be backed by evidence)
-Citations (Source, Author, Date Written, etc.)
-Impact Calculation (Whose impact is more substantial)
If you are new to CX, we highly recommend you ask the competitors to:
Speak at a volume and pace that is easily understood
Provide road maps before each speech (Road map- summary of points they are going to present)
Sign post as they present each speech (Sign post- They must explain exactly where they are attacking or affirming)
