Extemporaneous Speaking

Event Description:

NSDA rules for sources and internet connectivity will be followed.

Description:

Students will prepare and deliver a speech directly answering a question on a topic of political, cultural, or socio-economic importance. Students will be given three potential questions to answer, from which they will select one. Students will have 30 minutes to prepare and practice their speech before delivery. Students will be evaluated on the content and delivery of their speeches, including strength and complexity of analysis, and fluidity of delivery.

Outside sources may be consulted and cited for the speech. Internet connectivity during the preparation or performance time is prohibited.

Speeches should be delivered from memory, without the use of visual aides for the audience. The use of a manuscript or other aides while speaking is prohibited. Movement is allowed during the speech.

Time Limit: 7 minutes (30 second grace period is allowed).
