Event Description:

NSDA publication and interpretation rules will be followed as pertaining to the selection of eligible literature. This event is only open to students in their first year of competition (including middle school).

Description:

Students will select and deliver a performance of literature. Selections may be works of prose, poetry, or drama, and may represent either a single work or a combination (or "program") of multiple works of literature . Students are evaluated on the depth, creativity, and mastery of their performance - including physical and vocal characterization, narrative complexity, and dramatic effect.

Students must include an introduction of their own composition identifying the original author(s) and title(s) of the selected work(s).

Speeches must be delivered using a manuscript. Eye contact may be direct or off-focus. Movement is allowed during the speech. The use of outside props or costumes is prohibited.

Time Limit: 10 minutes (30 second grace period is allowed)
