Event Description:

An informative speech is an original speech designed to explain, define, describe, or illustrate a particular subject. The general purpose of the speech is for the audience to gain understanding and/or knowledge of a topic. Any other purpose, such as to entertain or to convince, shall be secondary. The use of audio/visual aids is optional. Informative speeches must not be more than 10 minutes, with a 30-second grace period without penalty. An informative speech must be the student's own work, and therefore no more than 150 words may be quoted and will be properly identified. These are to be delivered entirely from memory, but should be evaluated by the same standards that apply to any oral communication. If audio/visual aids are used, they should support the message rather than distract from the effectiveness of the presentation. No electronic equipment is to be used during the presentation.
