Duet

Event Description:

The focus will be off stage and not at their partner. Selections must be cuttings from printed published material. During the presentation, the team must name the author and source from which the cutting was taken. In DUO INTERP each of the two performers may play one or more characters as long as performance responsibility in the cutting remains as balanced as possible. If the selection contains narration, either or both performers may present the narration.

The performance may not be fewer than 5 minutes, nor greater than 10 minutes. There is a 30 second grace period either way. There are to be no hand signals given to the performers.

Considerations: Is the selection appropriate as contest material? The use of good literature should be noted favorably. Were the performers able to interpret characters correctly and consistently? How was each performer's poise, quality, and use of voice, inflections, emphasis, pronounciation, enunciation, physical expression, and use of gestures? Was the narrative vivid and animated, if included? Was the audience able to be carried away by the story due to the performers?
