Rules of Thumb:

• LD is a one-on-one debate that focuses on philosophy and morals. This month’s topic is “Resolved: The People’s Republic of China ought to prioritize environmental protection over economic growth.”

• Students will present their cases and each case should link to a value.

• Ultimately you will decide who wins the round based on their case and how they argued it.

• How to Judge: Keep track of who has the stronger case and who argues better. Ultimately it is up to you as a judge to determine the winner.

• Give each speaker their speaker points (if applicable) between 25-30. Make plenty of comments on the ballot.

LD Format of round:

Affirmative Constructive (AC) 6 minutes

Cross-Examination of the Affirmative by the Negative 3 minutes

Negative Constructive (NC) 7 minutes

Cross-Examination of the Negative by the Affirmative 3 minutes

1st Affirmative Rebuttal (1AR) 4 minutes

Negative Rebuttal (NR) 6 minutes

2nd Affirmative Rebuttal (2AR) 3 minutes

Prep time per team: 4 minutes
