Rules of Thumb:

• 5-7 minutes

• Foreign Extemp’s topics are world-wide.

• National Extemp’s topics are specific to the US

• STUDENTS HAVE ½ HOUR PREP PRIOR TO THEIR ROUND. So if you go to your room and don’t see anyone, just hang out. They’ll come in 1 at a time. :) They will get their topics in prep. Their topic choices are typically questions and the goal of the speech is to inform and answer that question. :)

• How to Judge: Make notes as you go, either on a paper or on the actual ballot. Be watching for who presents the most confidently, and who answers/informs you on their topic the best!

• Fill out the ballot as quickly as you can. :) ***Please submit your ballot as soon as possible. You can always go back and edit your feedback, but the tournament will be held up if the ballots don’t come in!*** :D
