Event Description:

Dramatic Monologue a) Selections for the dramatic monologue may be from any play that is age appropriate for middle school children. This is at the discretion of each director. b) Directors will provide the monologue being performed by email a week before the competition. c) No fowl or disturbing language will be allowed. If you are unsure of a word, please notify the contest managers before the contest date for approval. d) The selections must be dramatic in nature. e) Students must slate before the performance including their name, the title of the monologue, and the playwright or play that the piece is from. Violation will result in the student being ranked last in the round. f) This monologue must not be longer than two minutes in length with a thirty second grace period after the slating. The time will not begin until after the student has begun. g) Overtime violators SHALL NOT be ranked first in the round by the judge. Judges may consider audience reaction and its impact on official time before enforcing any overtime penalties. h) This monologue will be memorized and presented without the use of physical objects (script, props, hand props, scenery, or costumes. Violation will result in the student being ranked last in the round.
