Panther Pride MS ELM School Asynch State Prep Tournament

2022 — Online, UT/US

Pro/ Con Challenge (LD, CX, CONGRESS)

This is a great event that students get little chance to work with, so I highly encourage that we get a lot of entries in these events. This event will be split into 3 different events based on the entry being LD, CX, or Congressional based but the explanation for all of them will be on this page. Pro/ Con challenge is an event where students can work with the debate topics and give their voice on them, but then don't have to worry about another person arguing back. Its the debate topics with out the debate. Students will be submitting one video, but two speeches. Students will first give an affirmative speech on the topic they are working with (4 min in length) and then pause and start another speech (4 min in length) on the negation side of the topic. The idea is they are giving a constructive speech for each side of the debate. The speeches them selves can not, and should not build off of each other (except CX). The speeches should be presented as if the other speech did not exist (except CX). This video would be 8 min in length and the whole video as one will be judged. Two speeches, one judge score per round.

LD: Students will work with the Utah Middle School topic: "Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee universal child care."

Students will be giving an AFF, then a NEG speech on this topic. 4 min per speech side, totaling 8 min.

CX: Students will work with the UDCA 2021-22 topic: "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States in one or more of the following areas: drinking water, hydraulic fracturing, and/or agricultural use of water."

Students again will be giving an AFF, then a NEG speech. In this case because policy has students present a plan, the AFF speech must present a plan, and the NEG speech after must refute that plan just presented in the previous speech. 4 min per speech side, totaling 8 min.

CONGRESS: Students will be working with a group of Bills that they can choose from: UDCA Congress Legislation

Students will pick one of the Bills, present an AFF speech for that bill, then present a NEG speech for that same bill. 4 min per speech side, totaling 8 min. Elementary will be 2.5 min per side totaling 5 min.
