Lincoln Douglas Information (Replaces a Live Doc)

LD Round Check-In Procedures:

- We will release pairings as listed on the times on the schedule. This will blast to both students and judges.

- Judges will click "Start Round" on Tabroom.com as soon as they receive the ballot to acknowledge their ballot.

- Judges will have 15 minutes to acknowledge the ballot. Those who do not click "Start Round" by the Tech Check time will be replaced and fined.

- Both students and judges should be in the room for Tech Check time. You should check that your camera works, check that everyone can here, exchange email addresses to start an email chain, etc.

- Once Tech Check ends, you are free to start. THE ROUND MUST START BY THE POSTED START TIME.

Judge Obligations:

Judges in LD are obligated for all preliminary rounds and to stay and judge the first FULL elimination round after their students are eliminated.

Standby Judges:

If you are not assigned a round, you are expected to be in the LD Judges' Lounge and stay there until the round has started.  The Tab Staff will call out for replacements judges.  If you are not scheduled during a round and you are not ni the Judges' Lounge when called, your school may be fined.

Debate Decision Times

Every judge will have 75 minutes from the Start Time to hear the debate, type comments, assign points, choose a winner/loser, disclose and give an RFD.  Judges are encouraged to write an RFD, choose a winner/loser, assign points, and submit the ballot.  Judges can return to the ballot after the round to type additional comments.

Source Integrity & Evidence Ethics

All students must have copies of all sources, which must include the full context of the citation, not simply a retyped list of short sentences and quotes. Upon request, competitors must make these sources available to their opponent(s) in the round and/or their judges (after the round). Debate entries failing to do so or debaters who significantly misrepresent sources in the round may be disqualified at tab’s discretion.

Any decision to challenge evidence violations or unethical behavior must be made during the round in which the infraction occurred before the judge submits a decision to the tab room. No challenge can be made to conduct committed in any round after the ballot has been submitted to Tabroom. The judge assigned to the round will decide the challenge made in the round based solely on the evidence submitted by the teams in the round. No appeal, modification or reversal of the judge’s decision regarding the challenge or the consequences resulting from the challenge is permitted

Coin Flips in Elimination Rounds

Tabroom will automatically flip the coin 2 minutes after the publication of the pairing.  The winning debater will have 5 minutes to input their choice of side in Tabroom.com under their student page.  Once the winning debater makes a choice, each debater will be notified of the final pairing.  If the winning debater does not make a choice within 5 minutes of the flip, the choice will go to the debater who lost the flip.  If neither debater makes a selection in 10 minutes, the computer will automatically assign sides.

As a double check, the judge should read the ballot to the students in the room to make sure that it correctly reflects the side as decided by that automatic coin flip.  No judge will conduct a coin flip in the room.  The Tab Staff will not change the sides in any elim debate because of “user error” or technical difficulties.

In the event that the automatic coin flip is inoperable, the Tab Staff will instruct all LD judges to conduct the coin flip in room at the pairing release time. 

In the event that we double-flight an elimination round.  The Flight B coin flip will occur 77 minutes after the posted start time of Flight A.
