Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

Event Description:

Policy Debate:

  1. Time Limits: 8-3-5 with 8 minutes of prep time.

  2. Pre-round disclosure is not required.

All debate events:

  1. Ties are broken in the following order: win/loss, opposition loss, opposition record, ranks (PFD/CX)

  2. Roadmaps are allowed off-the-clock

  3. There are no grace periods, debaters should complete their idea at the judges discretion

  4. Students more than 10 minutes late to the round by no fault of the tournament forfeit.

  5. Students are extended 15 cumulative minutes of technical time each round to resolve technical issues. If issues are not resolved at 15 cumulative minutes the student will forfeit.

  6. All debaters are allowed to use whatever technology suits them during rounds. This technology may be used for any purpose with the exception of communicating to individuals outside of the round for coaching, feedback, or guidance. Violation of this rule will result in forfeiture and removal from the tournament.

  7. No maverick teams are allowed.

  8. We intend to advance to quarterfinals in all debates, however if entry numbers dictate it, we may adjust the schedule.
