Public Forum

Event Description:

Public Forum will follow NSDA rules that can be found in the High School Unified Manual for 2020-21: https://www.speechanddebate.org/wp-content/uploads/High-School-Unified-Manual-2020-2021.pdf. There will 6 preliminary rounds and winning records up to a full Quarters will break to elimination rounds. A brief awards ceremony will announce the top 5 speakers immediately following preliminary rounds.

We will host approximately 30 public forum teams.

The November/December NSDA Public Forum topic will be used; check the NSDA website.

Judging Requirements for Public Forum

Obligations:

• Each team = 3 rounds (e.g., 2 PF teams = 6 rounds and requires at least 1 judge to cover; 3 PF teams = 9 rounds and requires at least 2 judges to cover)

In regards to elimination rounds, all judges are obligated to judge the first full elimination round and/or one round beyond their school's best competitive finish. Whichever requirement is later will apply. For example, if your school has a competitor in the quarterfinals, then your school's judges are all obligated through the semifinals. This rule is necessary to ensure the best possible judging for the tournament.

There will not be any hired judging available in Public Forum.

Penalty for Missing Rounds

Please note there is a $50 per round penalty for any judges that miss their rounds. Please advise your judging staff that the team will be charged if they do not attend their debate rounds. We prefer not to charge any teams for missing debate rounds and this nuisance fee is only assessed to discourage judges from missing debates to ensure a high-quality experience for all competitors.
