Topics and Topic Areas - All Events

CX will use the NSDA/NFHS 2024 topic -- Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income.

LD will use the NSDA Jan/Feb 2024 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to substantially reduce its military presence in the West Asia-North Africa region.

PF will use the NSDA February 2024 topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should ban single-use plastics.

No novice topics will be used. The topics will be the same for all divisions.

Congress will follow the TFA Scaffold for Spring 2024 and use the following items of legislation, debated in the following order:

7L Congress (online):

Prelims -- 9, 6, 8, 7, 10

Semis (if needed) -- 15, 13, 11, 12, 14

Finals -- 18, 19, 16, 17, 20

Park Congress (in person):

Prelims -- 18, 19, 16, 17, 20

Semis (if needed) -- 9, 6, 8, 7, 10

Finals -- 15, 13, 11, 12, 14

As per the TFA Constitution page 67, section 2 - there is no minimum cycle of debate. Chambers are welcome to move the previous question or to table legislation as they see fit without a requirement for authorship or debate on a particular item.

R1 and R2 (students will debate both sides): This House believes that NATO has done more harm than good.

R3: impromptu

R4: This House supports a salary cap for professional sports teams.

Elim 1: This House would implement a compulsory national service system.

Elim 2 (if needed): impromptu

Elim 3 (if needed): This House prefers investment in public transportation infrastructure over investment in automobile infrastructure.
