Rules for Lip Sync and TV Commercial

LIP SYNC

Groups may choose to come up with a team name like "Matilda Blue" - remember that you'll want to think about how to tell more common songs apart from one another!

An individual or a group that is amaximumof five people will lip-sync to a song that they have chosen. Students are allowed to use props and costume pieces. PerformersMUSTprovide both their music and music playing devices. Students cannot make any noise themselves. A sound system will not be provided; students should bring their own device and speaker. Choreography, synchronization, creativity, costumes, and props are key judging criteria. Music must be school appropriate and approved by team
directors or coaches in advance. The performance consists of one song that is 3-6 minutes long. It can NOT be a mix or mash-up (unless that is how it is in the original musical). A memorized introduction (Slate) stating the title of song, the title of album or musical it's from, and composer and lyricist is required before the performance and does not count towards the time of the performance.

TELEVISION COMMERCIAL

Teams should submit a recognizable team name for their code (such as Grapeve HOMEWORK BUSTER).

T.V. Commercial - TV Commercials are for teams between 1 and 5 students. The use of Props/Costumes/Chairs/Desks/Music (etc.) is allowed and encouraged. Movement and/or blocking are also strongly encouraged. The art of a commercial lies in the student’s ability to say a lot about the product in a short amount of time. The product being presented must be an original idea of the team, not something taken from another source (such as spoofs from Saturday Night Live). Props, costumes, music, and anything else necessary to try to sell the product will be allowed, as long as it is in good taste. Catchy jingles or phrases are encouraged. Judging will be based on originality, persuasiveness, creativity with props and costumes, vocal/facial/body expression, and use of space by the whole team. The commercial, props, and costumes should be done in good taste and appropriate for a middle school environment. Students must provide both their own music and music playing device. Time limit is 5 minutes maximum. The time will begin after the slate. The slate should include the name of the group and the product.
