Topics for Duet Improvisation and Impromptu Speaking

Performers should choose one topic and submit a recorded performance by 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 22. To be fair, we will drop any entries in these events that do not submit a video by the 8:00 pm deadline. Do not wait until the last minute to submit your entries.

The time limit for both events is 5 minutes plus 30 seconds grace. Please make sure that each performer's video does not exceed 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

Students should not include their prep time in their recording. This recording will be used for all rounds of the tournament.

Duet Improvisation Topics

Topic 1: A student meets a historical figure they learned about in history class.

Topic 2: A genie offers a person three wishes but doesn't like the three wishes they choose.

Topic 3: Two superheroes cannot agree how to save the day.

Impromptu Speaking Topics

Topic 1: "The darkest hour is just before dawn." (Ralph Stanley)

Topic 2: "The only thing that really matters in life are your relationships to other people." (George Vaillant)

Topic 3: "We do not see things as they are; we see things as we are." (Jewish Proverb)

To submit your recordings, go to the Olle Owl Middle School Invitational under Existing Tournament Registrations. Click on the Entries tab. Next to each entry, there is an edit button (a pencil in a box). Click on that button, making sure not to click the trash button by accident. Enter the Link to Performance Video and click the Save Details button. Please test the link after saving.
