Wood River Round Robin

2023 — Hailey, ID/US

2023 Wood River Round Robin Invitational

Wood River High School welcomes you and your students to our campus for a day of great competition and a comfortable way to kick off the year on Saturday, October 14, in beautiful Hailey, Idaho. We will offer 5 rounds of novice debate in both Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas formats as well as 3 sessions of novice Student Congress. Varsity competitors will serve as judges.

THIS EVENT WILL BE ON PAPER BALLOTS AS THE INTERNET IS LOCKED DOWN AT WRHS AND OUR LAPTOPS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THEIR NETWORK. PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR STUDENTS!

Awards will be presented to students that achieve a winning record (3-2 and better) and an appropriate number of Congress placements roughly equal to that in the other debate formats.

We will use the September/October PF and LD debate topics and Congress legislation, which are:

PF - The United States federal government should substantially increase its military presence in the Arctic.

LD - The United States ought to guarantee the right to housing.

Congress - We will use a combination of legislation from the NSDA from their April 2023 packet and the Diversity and Inclusion legislation (both can be found at www.speechanddebate.org). The packet is attached to this website and we will take the legislation IN ORDER in the sessions.

If you review the schedule, you will see a time built in for lunch (we will provide this for you as part of your entry fee) and a time for a "seminar" for varsity to share their observations, so far, and for varsity to meet with their novices for some "coaching" and prep before the rest of the competition.

If you have any questions, please contact tournament host Kevin Case at kcase@blaineschools.org or tournament manager Jeff Stoppenhagen at jeffrey.stoppenhagen@vallivue.org.

Looking forward to a great day in the Wood River valley!
