Rules and Topics

Event Rules: For information regarding the IHSAA Rules and Regulations that we follow for this tournament, please see the website at idhsaa.org under the "activities" tab.

Extemp Draw: We will use the NFHS questions from February 2023 for this tournament in prelims, where students may choose from either International or United States extemporaneous questions in draw. We will use the NSDA February questions in the final round.

Panel Discussion Topics: To what extent should people adapt their speech and behavior to avoid offending others? What should be done to prepare children for the difficult realities of life? Could the actions of citizens significantly reduce crime?

Radio and Retold Draws: Students will be given a page from a newspaper for Radio prep and 3 children’s books for Retold prep.

Congress Legislation: District 3's Spring Legislation packet for prelims and January 2023's NSDA practice docket for finals.

Food

We will offer concessions. There are no food options near our campus, so we hope your students will take advantage of our offerings or make sure they bring their own. We plan on having pizza, hot dogs, salad, fruit, bottled water, juice, soda, chips, granola bars, muffins, carrot sticks, doughnuts, candy, frozen gogurts, and other snacks.

Pizza ordered before the day of the tournament will be $16 per pizza (18" Costco pizza freshly baked in our ovens) instead of the $18 we will charge on the date of the tournament. To order, please email shelly.gering@vallivue.org with your order and the time you'd like it to be delivered (or let me know that you'll tell the cook when you're ready to have it cooked). If desired, orders by coaches may be paid at the same time as the entry fees.

For judges and coaches, we will feed you dinner (pizza) Friday and a light breakfast (muffins, boiled eggs, and fruit) Saturday followed by tacos for lunch and chili for dinner. We will also have snacks and beverages available throughout each day in the judges' lounge.

Other

The heat will be on, and we will have reliable wifi.

Please have school buses drop off students in the student parking lot on the north side of the school off Linden Rd and enter the school through the door on the north side. Judges may park in the front lot on the west side of campus. Registration for teams and judges will take place in the cafeteria on the northwest corner of the school. The judge's meeting will be held in the judge's lounge, which is in the lecture hall (off the southheast end of the cafeteria).

If you have any questions, please contact tournament host, Shelly Gering, at shelly.gering@vallivue.org or by phone at 208-570-7029. The students, team, coaches, and administration of Ridgevue look forward to welcoming you.

Best regards,

Shelly Gering
