Arizona District National Qualifying Tournament
March 18, 19, & 20, 2021
The Arizona NSDA District Committee is pleased to invite you to this year’s national qualifying tournament. We look forward to your participation in one of the most exciting and the most important tournaments of the year, and we eagerly anticipate the selection of the finest slate of competitors to represent our state at the 2nd NSDA Virtual National Tournament.
PLEASE bring as many entries, in both Congress and the District Qualifier, that your team is allotted. Because of lower entry numbers, the NSDA has adjusted the qualification numbers. Because we are a Level 3 District, for this year only, we automatically qualify 4 entries in each event if we have a minimum of 10. This can be the most exciting of tournaments because we never know who will qualify. I have personally qualified freshmen and novices in almost all of the events. Coaches, we have an obligation to keep the dream alive. Please never tell them, "It isn't worth going, because you won't qualify."
NEW THIS YEAR:
We will run a SYNCHRONOUS TOURNAMENT with video backup where allowed for all events except DUO. Duo will be all asynchronous.
Every team that competes at the District Tournament will qualify at least two (2) students to the National Tournament. The NSDA is offering entry to the National tournament in multiple supplemental events to two non-qualifying students from each team that competes at the AZ District Tournament. Also, there will be two new supplemental events: Spoken Word Poetry and Pro/Con Challenge.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The District Tournament will be a three (3) day event and follow the new NSDA PILOT rules.
MY PLEA TO YOU: PLEASE READ EVERY WORD OF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED AND CALL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.
It is vitally important for everyone to understand that this tournament, above all others, is absolutely the most tedious to prepare and run for everyone involved. As coaches, YOU have so many details YOU must take care of if you want your students to be able to compete in this tournament. The committee cannot and will not allow a school to enter and compete if the requirements have not been met.
