Impromptu Duo
Event Description:
Impromptu Duo
*This is an event created specifically for this tournament.
Understanding the Event:
Students must compete in teams of two in this event. The purpose is for students to create a cohesive narrative and present in a duo-type format using the restrictions put into place in each round. Like impromptu, students will have three choices of topic, and they must choose one. They have limited preparation and performance time.
Start Round:
One pair of speakers at a time, in order of ballot or judge choice, will go to the judge and be given a slip of paper with three topics/ restrictions. They must choose one after brief discussion. Do not allow a team to begin until both presenters are in the room.
The team of students will have two minutes to prepare their presentation.
Presentations must include a cohesive story line that uses the chosen topic/ restriction with a brief introduction that puts the topic in context in the first half of the speech.
Speech:
After two minutes of preparation, the students will begin presenting. Most presentations will follow this structure:

1-2 minute teaser

30 second-1 minute introduction

2-3 minutes of presenting
Like a duo, students should block their piece and each student can represent multiple characters. Students must not make direct eye contact with one another or touch each other. Their story line must be original. The speech max time is five minutes with a 30 second grace period. No two groups of students should be given the same set of topic choices. Students are encouraged to stay in the room to watch other performances.
