Event Description:
Criteria:
Dramatic Song Lyric Interpretation (DSLI) is a one person event consisting of one or more songs from a single author.
*Performers must present an introduction that provides the necessary background and relevant context for the speech selection.
*Title and author must be stated in the introduction .
*Students must use a manuscript. Scripts must be in a uniform black binder per ACTAA event rules via the Qualifying Document.
*Time limit is 5 minutes (if the performer goes beyond the time limit, the performer may not be rankedfirst). There is no time minimum..
*Time begins with the first word or acting beat (if it precedes the first word) of the presentation.
*Note: It is the expectation that performances are the artistic creation of the performer(s). If there issuspicion of plagiarism, please be prepared to cite the source that was copied and consult with the tournament director.
COMMENTS:
Introduction: Did it establish background information? Was it appropriate for the selection? Did it set the mood?
Choice of Selection: Was it appropriate material? Did it “fit” the speakers? Was it sufficient by itself?
Delivery: Was the performer poised? Did they use good facial expressions, gestures, and vocal clarity? Was the manuscript used effectively without distraction?
Characterization: Ability to create a believable character? Were the emotional and mental elements of the characters understood and projected efficiently?
Overall Impression: Did the speaker portray theLiterature and characters effectively? Was it entertaining?And/or enjoyable?
