Event Description:
Based on a selection of one of three written statements, phrases, words, or objects, the contestant will prepare a
speech that lasts for at least two minutes. The contestant is given a total of seven minutes to prepare and deliver
his/her speech. Speakers should be given minute by minute time signals. Prep time begins once a student is called
to draw his/her topic. Only students competing in junior division may be allowed to use a notecard during the
presentation of the speech. [The topic slip itself is not considered “notes”. It may be used during the speech if
nothing else is written on it other than the topic]
