TIKTOK

Event created by Meg Howell, Mountain View High, AZ

There will be an initial entry cap of 5 entries per event per school and if events don’t fill, we will open that up.

Also view full event rules here. (Seriously, use this link-- it is formatted way easier to read than what is below, sorry!)

Students who compete in this event must create and upload 5 TikTok videos that align with each specified category. The time limit for each video is 1 minute.

Competitors will be required to submit the links to a Google Form. The Google Form to upload links can be found here: https://forms.gle/bSQzPBuGA8o212198.

VIDEO LINKS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY APRIL 16, 2021 AT 5 PM.

Care must be taken to upload the correct video in each category. We will not make adjustments after the asynchronous rounds have been assigned to the judges. Please tag each video on Tiktok with #CHSSA2021, #speechanddebate, and a hashtag for the category (ie. #duet)

Competitors will be allowed to use the tools TikTok offers, but they must keep in mind that this is a speaking event (not a lip-sync event) and will be judged by anyone in the IE Pool, so a primary goal should be to appeal to a wide variety of people.

All content submitted in these videos must be the original work of the competitor and should be appropriate for the high school audiences.

Categories for rounds are as follows:

1. Commentary – The competitor will present an opinion or point of view on an issue, situation, or event. The content must be the original work of the contestant delivering it. This is a speaking event; therefore, the competitor should not simply read the speech. Time limit: 1 minute.

2. Educational – The competitor will educate through instruction or demonstration of anything of their choosing. The content must be the original work of the contestant delivering it. This is a speaking event; therefore, the competitor should not simply read the speech. Time limit: 1 minute.

3. Comedy – The competitor will present a comedy routine. (Think stand-up comedy or satire.) The content must be the original work of the contestant delivering it. This is a speaking event; therefore, the competitor should not simply read the speech. Time limit: 1 minute.

4. Spoken Word – The competitor will present a single poem. The content must be the original work of the contestant delivering it. This is a speaking event; therefore, the competitor should not simply read the speech. Time limit: 1 minute.

5. Duet – The competitor will duet themselves in one of the options described below. The video created must show both videos side by side. The content must be the original work of the contestant delivering it. This is a speaking event; therefore, the competitor should not simply read the speech. Time limit: 1 minute.
