Var Retold Story

Event Description:

EVENT PROCESS CHANGE - PLEASE NOTE!!!

This year provides the perfect opportunity to try a different format for this event. For this year, we will run Retold Story as a PREPARED event, adapting some of the same rules as the NSDA event, Storytelling. The difference is that the time limit will still be 6 minutes maximum with NO time signals and there are no props allowed.

Time: 6 min. maximum -- Time signals: NOT provided -- Non-draw Event

1. A single published, printed story, anecdote, tale, myth, or legend must be retold without notes or props. Any theme/topic area may be used.

2. The student may not tell a story they have used previously in any Association tournaments (district or national).

3. The delivery must be extempore, not read. No book or script may be used. The story may be delivered standing or seated.

4. Gestures, pantomime and characterization, may be used with restraint but the focus must be on the narrative.

5. The retelling must be true to the original tale. The contestant may not add original material or materially change the content of the story.
