Policy Paradigm List
All Paradigms: Show HideBasic info
Hi! I'm McKenna (she/her). I'm a sophomore at NWU, double-majoring in Spanish and Political Science with a minor in French. I competed for 4 years in policy debate at Lincoln East both locally and nationally. My partner and I mostly ran middle-ground affs with feminist framing and a bit of everything on neg, though I enjoyed Ks most and my partner T. I'm most familiar with fem and cap Ks, though I've run plenty more.
please put me on the email chain! mweber.policydebate@gmail.com
I haven't judged yet this year, so I'm not familiar with the topics. Please be sure to explain any acronyms you're using and whatnot. I typically judge policy but have also judged some LD.
Preferences:
Basically do whatever you want, if you're questioning whether you can run something in front of me you probably can! My bottom line is be respectful of others!!!! This also applies to cx, you can push your opponent in your questioning without overly interrupting or talking over them (beyond getting a long-winded explanation to stop). If you're running a K be sure to explain it well.
I'm good with spreading, but clarity > speed.
Tech > truth (but best if you have both)
Debate is an educational activity unless you tell me it's a game.
Be sure to time your own speeches/prep
Also please try to be organized! And signpost!!!

Background: I am currently a policy debater at Lincoln East High School. I've debated policy for 3 years and am currently competing in this topic. I've qualified for nationals twice in policy and have done one PF tournament and two congress tournaments as well lol.
- I debate as a 2A/2N
- I mostly run soft-left affs usually related to fem, but also have experience running policy/trad affs
TLDR; Tech > Truth. Run whatever you want, as long as it's smart and not offensive (racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.) and have fun!
Policy
General: Make sure you warrant your evidence well, contextualize it to the round and your opponents' arguments, don't just extend evidence and expect me to do the work for you. That being said, more evidence is not always better, I would rather you make more smart analytical arguments than just card dumping.
Kritiks: I want a clear form a solvency (whether aff or neg) and why your model is better (framework, perms, links)
Soft-Left: FRAMING is key!! (judge framing, impact framing, link story, etc.)
Topicality: I don't really enjoy T debates but that doesn't mean I won't vote on it. However, I won't vote on T unless you fulfill these requirements: Explain why T is an a-priori, give examples of what meets your interp, have standards and voters, contextualize it to impacts inside and outside of the debate space.
Presumption: Presumption probably goes neg unless you give me a good reason it doesn't
Cross: I pay attention to cross. This is your chance to ask tricky questions and set up arguments -- use it wisely!
- Tag team cross is fine as long as one partner isn't answering all the questions
Speed: Read as fast or as slow as you are comfortable with, just make sure I can understand it. I prefer clarity over speed.
Prep: Don't steal prep! I won't count flashing or emailing as prep though.
Speaks: I usually default 28.5 to the winner and 28 to the loser unless there were some strategic errors made or if you were straight-up rude.
Misc:
Don't be rude/disrespectful to your opponents PLEASE! I will def tank your speaks if you do.
If you make a Lorax or mainstream anime reference (jjk, jojo's, hxh, studio ghibli, aot, etc.) You can expect a (.1-.3) boost in speaks depending on how much I smile :) Don't overdo it though
Do you believe in gravity?
