As a progressive judge, I will approach the round with an open mind and a willingness to consider all arguments presented. I have 4 years experience in public forum debate and am comfortable with theory, kritiks, and shells in LD. However, my ultimate goal is to evaluate the round based on the soundness of the arguments presented. I will be looking for clear and well-supported claims, logical reasoning, and effective refutation of opposing arguments.

I am also comfortable with spreading, but if a debater chooses to spread, I ask that they flash their case to me for accessibility purposes. If your opponent is not comfortable with spreading don't . Be nice to one another. I like a good fair debate.

In terms of evaluating arguments, I will prioritize arguments that are well-supported. That being said, I welcome arguments that are new, exciting, and critical. I will also take into consideration the debaters' conduct and the overall structure of the round when making my decision.

At the end of the day, I want to see a FAIR debate.

While I have many years of experience as a teacher, I have very limited experience as a debate judge. Therefore, I would prefer that the speaking speed be moderate, words clearly enunciated, and arguments laid out concisely.

A resolution should be stated at the beginning of the debate, all important terms defined, and data/stats are put into context.

I am open to all arguments and try and remain as neutral as possible. It is your job to ensure I know your argument without studying it myself. I am okay with speed, and I flow, but if you are gasping for air, chances are I am not flowing. If it is not on my flow, I will not consider it. Tell me where you are on the flow and go line by line. Tag your arguments; do not expect me to flow based on author cards. I appreciate a direct yet respectful clash and want to hear definitive links. I am a timekeeper and expect you to stay within the time allotted. You should track your prep time, although I do on my end.
