I am a former varsity PF debater and Impromptu speaker. I also won the Big Questions Tournament 2022 (as my teammates requested I put in here). I use she/her pronouns. I don't really care about formality (clothes, shoes, setup, whatever, although don't be ridiculous for both our sakes). If you have tech issues, let me know and we can figure it out. I won't dispute unless you tell me to, be nice, don't make me intervene. I'm fairly flow but I'm also literally a high schooler. Speed is fine, but please organize and signpost well. Have good evidence. Don't be rude. Tech over truth. Theory/K is fine, but needs to be explained thoroughly. Make puns.

I don't have all that much experience in anything other than PF but I have a pretty good gist of the other events.

I have been a judge associated with Notre Dame High School since 2018 as my older sister is the director of speech and debate there. Tournaments I have judged include invitationals and state qualifiers. My experience includes debate events such as public forum and Lincoln-Douglas, as well as interpretative, oratory and extemporaneous speech events. My debate judging style focuses on the value criteria of net benefit or maximizing welfare. If I feel the proposal would potentially do more harm than good compared to the status quo, I would vote for the negative. If the proposal seems to be more beneficial compared to the status quo, I would vote for the affirmative.

Treat me like I am a parent, I can follow along with any argument you want to make, just have a good explanation of your argument and why it matters because if I cant understand your argument then I cant vote for it, have some weighting as to why your argument means you should win the debate

I like clear signposting and clearly telling me why you won the point and why I should prefer your evidence/impacts/warranting, whatever it may be. Explain to me why you win. I love good speakers and having good, persuasive rhetoric is a big plus.

Be kind and civil to each other, especially during cross. I have all too many experiences with people in cross being rude or pushy. Be confident, but not disrespectful. Rounds aren't fun to debate or watch if people aren't kind to each other.

I'm a debater at Palo Alto High school and compete in public forum as first speaker and impromptu speaking.

here are some things I like to see

- do NOT spread. I flow and can handle some real speed but please do not try to fit every possible contention and line by line point in. it is more impressive if you are able to crystallize.

- explain links thoroughly throughout the round. I would like to hear your logic multiple times if you are going to extend it across the round. don't just rely on case and restate everything, continue to respond to refutations and respond with link chain accordingly

- impact weighing. I'm not going to vote off the impact if the link chain into isn't good. Thus, if the link chain was either not expressed clearly or does not have credible evidence to back it up, it doesn't matter how huge your impact was. Additionally, weighing mechanisms are alright but I would prefer if you actually say why the scope or magnitude is so great without just saying "weigh on scope and magnitude"

- in pf especially. I understand the plight first speakers never getting feedback on summary, so I will be paying attention ! thus, I like to see crystallization or voting issues, as well as weighing.

- in ff, please summarize contentions and weigh.

- please be nice to your opponents. if it feels like you're being condescending, the chances of voting for you drop. if you're outright rude and name call your opponents, it will take a considerable amount of argumentation to even make me consider not voting for the other team. if it feels like opponents are being mean, do not sink to their level and just trust that I as a judge will see this and act accordingly.

- for cx, the same points apply. if I hear yelling, it makes me want to not listen. during speeches is fine but against opponents feels needlessly excessive and rude.

- on k's and theory. I don't run these or understand how these work, so unless you spend time telling me what happens, I'm not going to vote for you

I am a parent judge. Please speak clearly and argue with logic. 

I am a parent judge but have judged for multiple years since 2016. I mostly judged PF but I also judged Congress and Parliamentary.

I am flay, meaning I take notes, but not in a flow style.

I like to focus on direct clashes and rebuttals of your opponent's arguments. Points need to be extended in every speech, and if one team brings up a point that is not extended, I will not consider it. It is also up to the opponent team to bring this to my attention.

I will always weigh impacts. I primarily weigh on the magnitude, but I will also consider timeframe and probability.

Do not spread. I want every speaker to give their speeches in a clear, systematic way and emphasize the main points they want to resonate with me.

• have your evidence prepared in cut cards
• not a huge fan of theory and Ks so don't run them unless you warrant them really really well. (not really applicable to novice)
• i will not flow cross (or listen that closely) - but be nice (ad hominem attacks are a big no). let ur opps answer ur questions and also give them questions
• Please signpost, off-time roadmaps would be greatly appreciated if you stick to them.
• I'm mostly tech over truth, but be reasonable.
• Please weigh!!

• throwing in a cool metaphor
• quoting famous people/movies/songs
• correctly identifying a logical fallacy made by your opponents
• being funny/making jokes/doing anything to lighten the mood

Hello all, I am a parent judge and enjoy judging all formats.

Please speak clearly and to the point. I can handle speed but would prefer that you not rush as I might miss the most impactful argument. I will prefer that you have valid arguments along with being good debtors. My decision will evaluate all scopes of the debate: framework, reasoning, arguments, evidence, etc. Ensure to drive home the point why your impacts are better achieved over your opponent.

I am a parent volunteer judge. Here are the key elements I look for in a debate:

1. Evidence and Reasoning: Thorough understanding of the topic. Sound logic backed with facts, statistics, and evidence. Evidence quality is critical.
2. Organization: Effective Introduction and Conclusion(not just wordy but effective). Well structured, and coherent theme development. Smooth transitions, effective use of time, knowledge of rules, effective use of your partner/collaboration(effective participation of both partners is important for me).
3. Refutation and defense: Effective use of logic to refute opponents arguments, ability to think on your feet (negative points for rote speeches/memorization), and recognition of fallacies. Organized and collected (and not flustered). Listening, and accurately understanding opponents premise is important. Effective cross examination, effective use of cross fire questions/time (effective questions, honest answers, skillful responses). Leverage cross examination to undermine opponents fundamental premise, and bolster your own POV(quality of cross examination questions is important).
4. Understanding of basic debating rules, and effective use of clock and rules against opponents. Being nimble, and ability to handle any style of opponent.
5. Penalties: Poor conduct/Bad language/Personal attacks. Poor teamwork. False evidence. Unfair methods. Not following the debate rules/time allocation.

Speaking presentation and style are for speaker points but do not substantively impact who wins or loses the debate.

Combination truth and tech

Back up arguments with facts and evidence, not assumptions and hyperbole

No spreading, quality of arguments outweigh quantity of arguments

Courtesy and professionalism go a long way.

I'm an experienced policy and Lincoln Douglas debater during high school.
