I am a parent judge. I judge a handful of tournaments a year of varying difficulty. I will try to flow the round if you move too quickly through a point, I may miss your point. I need you to speak at a conversational rate with clarity. Signposting does help me follow your argument. Talking louder does not create emphasis, it is very distracting to me as a judge, slow down or create eye contact to make your point.

I may not be aware of all the debate jargon or even jargon within the topic. Clear and concise weighing will be key to getting the ballot, MAKE SURE you give clear reasons to prefer your case, and don’t go all in for turns. Address the topic given, I am not in favor of alternative types of cases being presented. Speaker points will be decided upon by respectful dialogue and a knowledgeable presentation of the argument.

Background:

I went to Nationals in PF twice, and have qualified to nats in extemp and congress. I have some experience in LD.

PF:

Framework- I am okay with framework and will flow it across ONLY if you tell me a)Why it matters and b)extend it in every speech. If you agree with their framework, don't just say, 'I agree' - turn it. If you have clashing framework, tell me why to prefer yours.

Speaks-I'd prefer it if you didn't spread simply because this isn't policy, but If you do, it must be clear. I cannot weigh your args If I don't know what they are. Please sign post, and slow down tags. keep your own time in prep+speeches

Argumentation: I will weigh the round on contention level debate. If an argument isn't extended, it's dropped. But, if you say, 'my opponents dropped...' that will not necessarily win you the round, explain why it matters. The First Summary must frontline, address the previous speech. If you don't tell me why the argument matters, I won't weigh it. And quantify your impacts-I need to know WHY this argument matters. Tech>Truth. Impact calc is always fun!

Progressive debate-I'd prefer if it was kept out of PF.

I won't really call for cards unless it was brought up throughout the round.

LD:

Same paradigm as PF, but, I have very minimal experience in LD. I'll keep up with anything as long as you clearly explain and weigh your arguments.

Progressive debate is fine, but don't assume I know the lit.

Hi! I'm Kate, I debated for four years at Booker T., went to nationals twice in PF, and got eight at state in PF.

Overall, I value a clear and respectful debate. I dislike spreading and value clarity and quality of arguments over quantity of arguments. I will be looking for the team that is able to clearly explain the key points of the round and why they flow to their side. Arguments should be backed up with legitimate evidence and I appreciate ample use of evidence but don't card drop. If you ask for a card, bring it up in your next speech.

I am going to vote based off of impacts and the big picture of the debate. Tell me why the debate matters and how your side (either the AFF world or the NEG world) is best for society.

About me

I competed at Westmoore High School for 4 years where I was a 4x national qualifier and in multiple state final rounds. I also currently coach multiple events including all the debate events and some specific IE events. I also beat Taylor Rafferty in a debate round once.

TLDR: General Debate Things

1. Tech>Truth. This obviously excludes racist, homophobic, and other hateful sentiments.

2. You should be crystalizing and summarizing your best arguments in your last rebuttal speech going for everything is not in your best interest.

3. Clash is the most important thing for me in debate if you don't do it or are just avoiding it the round will probably not go well for you.

4. SIGN POST PLEASE. If you don't your speaker points just like your signposting won't exist.

Trad LD

1. Framework is pretty important to me especially when im looking at what arguments to prioritize in the round.

2. Since progressive debate is becoming more common among the local circuit I'm fine with speed and counter plans etc.... All I ask is that if you're gonna do it please format it correctly and just call it a counter plan or a "K" or whatever don't try to hide it as a contention.

3. If you signpost, extend your arguments, try not to drop stuff, and give an offensive reason why I should vote for you as opposed to a defensive one, you'll be in very good shape. (Offense = why I'm winning, Defense = why I'm not losing).

4. Your framework and your case should be able to match properly I don't want to see a Kant framework and then a bunch of extinction arguments I might sob internally.

PFD

1. FILL YOUR SPEECH TIMES. You already don't have a lot of time use it wisely!

2. Please don't make Grand Cross a big disaster please be civil and nice.

3. Make sure to carry your arguments all the way through final focus if they are not carried through I won't use it in my decision.

4. Public Forum Debate is called Public Forum for a reason it is supposed to be as accessible to a general audience as possible there shouldn't be a high use of progressive argumentation or debate lingo.

5. Don't be one of those teams that paraphrases evidence you will instantly lose all credibility.

Background: PF debater for 2 years

PF

FW- If framework is used, you must weigh throughout the entire round but I focus heavily on contention level debate.

Speaks- Do not spread. If I cannot understand the evidence, your opponent most likely will not either. Slow down tags, enunciate, and SIGNPOST. I would like to hear author citations and credentials in constructive. (keep your own time for speeches + prep)

Argumentation: Tell me what argument you're responding. Lots of clash in the rebuttal is really fun, but if the arguments are not extended after rebuttal, it's dropped. Tell me why the argument matters and quantify your impacts!

Evidence- I won't call for cards unless the evidence is bizarre or am told to do so in a speech.

LD

Same paradigm as PF in terms of argumentation, but I have little experience in LD. Weigh your arguments and I'll keep up.

Went to nationals twice in PF, got 5th at state in FX, got 8th at state in PF.

Totally comfortable with theory/progressive debate as long as it is not sloppy.

You can spread if you like just share the case with me first, and know that I will not give you any bonus points for doing it.

Add me to any evidence sharing chain (I will look at all the evidence) I will not flow against bad cards unless the opponents indict it but I might doc speaks for it.

Make the most of CX, because I will flow it through.

If you do not extend an argument, I will not either.

I am going to vote off warrants so make sure those are pretty clear.

Try to tell me what the bigger picture is, like what a AFF v NEG world looks like. (especially in National Circuit Tournaments)

Also, I appreciate any references to Taylor Swift or the exceedingly long One Piece anime series.
