What I'm looking for is a clear, concise argument. Humor is appreciated, but all jokes should be in good taste. I want to see good preparation from competitors as well asadaptability- if you don't have something written, and the splits are bad, switching sides shows dedication. Questioning is an essential part of debate, so you should do that. Zoning out and only speaking when necessary will not do you any favors.
Decorum is also an essential part of debate. You should be not just courteous but kind to your competitors.
PO's should not just be charismatic but quick as well. The most consistent issue I see across tournaments is PO's taking too long to find the next speaker, whether it be during questioning or actual speeches. Other than that, do your best and pay attention.

I have judges multiple events, however I spend most sessions in Debate, Congress, L-D and PF.
The opportunity for me to judge at Nationals several times has been exciting and very rewarding!
I want to be able to understand you, please speak clearly. My expectations for this
event are:
Disrespect is never ok, be fair to each other and treat people as you would like to be treated.
Be kind, to others as well as yourself.
Logical, clear arguments are appreciated!

I'm a former speech competitor that has been judging speech, PF, LD, and CX rounds for 5 years. I am currently a public speaking teacher at the collegiate level as well. The things that I look for are consistent throughout both speech and debate events, recent and unbiased information, clear definitions, and NO SPREADING! The point of debate is to cleanly debate topics as educated individuals and to not devolve into a rude, talking over type of argument. There is a difference between debating and arguing.
The long and short of it all: I want a good, clean and fair fight!

PF/LD:
Hi, I'm Jakob Lucas and I just graduated last year. I was involved in debate all 4 years of high school and did Congress for every year. I like all different types of arguments and weighing mechanisms. It's up to you to determine how I should weigh the debate, I will make the decision of how to weigh the debate myself ONLY IF no weighing mechanism is provided. Overall I think I'm pretty well-versed and you can run almost anything you'd like I just have two requests:
- Please no spreading.
- Please no kritiks (Ks).

I focus on making arguments clear and urge debaters to express their points well. I'm impartial, without any preset biases, and I'll assess arguments based on their substance. I'm adaptable, adjusting my judging style to fit debaters' strategies and the specific dynamics of each round. Ultimately, I'll decide based on who presented the stronger argument and case.

I am a first generation Cuban-American who grew up in rural NC (so my Spanish is weak at best). I competed in speech (poetry and prose interpretation mostly) in both middle and high school. I have had two children compete in debate so I am aware for both formal rules and conventions.
I am a veterinary pathologist with extensive diagnostic and research experience (including covid studies); I also am a huge history buff. So I will probably know if your science or history is wrong / out of context / or misleading. That said, I do not penalize the speaker unless the error is egregious, meaning that a reasonable person would know the speaker is in factual error off the top of their head. Otherwise, I expected the opposing side to point out the error themselves. I do penalize if the opposition misquotes the other sides argument.
Please do not speak so quickly I cannot understand what you are saying.
And good luck!
