Experience: 2 tournaments with LD, 4 years of Parli, Public Forum, and Policy. 3 years of Extemporaneous Speaking.
General Paradigm:
1. I prioritize argumentation (logic, evidence, logos) over presentation, but if your speech is compromised by excessive stuttering, low (or far too high) volume, etc., that will have an effect on my overall judging. Basically, I'm not expecting the oratory skills of George Washington -- but don't ignore having good (or at least good enough) presentation.
2. I don't require long introductions, but signposting is recommended for clarity (it helps me take notes).
3. Basic Decency. Don't insult your opponents. Treat everyone in the room with respect, including yourselves (excessive self-deprecation does not earn brownie points).
Speed: Spread if you want, but don't expect me to catch every nuance of your argument if you do. I would recommend not spreading. You can speak quickly but make sure I can understand what you're saying.
Kritik: If you can do it well, do it. If you can't, don't.
Flow: I do flow debates. Make your arguments coherent and have cogent points to make. Ensure that you directly engage with your opponents' arguments and that you substantiate your claims (don't just say X is true and move on without elaboration).
