Jim Sauer Invitational at La Crosse Central
2018 — La Crosse, WI/US
Information
Fees
We will have some hired judging available. If you need hired judging, please contact me at least two weeks in advance in order to make arrangements. Every school must provide some judging to cover their commitment. While we encourage experienced students to judge at our tournament to help fulfill the novice commitment, we would like to limit all student judging to students who have at least two full years of competitive experience in the event they are judging.
Please bring checks to the tournament or mail to:

Hotel Information
While we will not have a tournament hotel, there are a number of hotel options in downtown La Crosse (10 minute drive from campus) and Onalaska (10-15 minute drive from campus). La Crosse has recently completed a number of new hotels downtown, and especially if you have not visited La Crosse for some time, you will be pleasantly surprised by the number of options downtown.
Awards – Opening information will be provided in all registration packets. All tournament participants must review this important information before beginning competition. We will have an awards assembly for debate speakers and early elimination participants, for Student Congress, and for Individual Events.
Food – We will be providing free dinner on Friday evening before the final round of the day. We will serve breakfast on Saturday for all participants.
ENTRY INFORMATION:
All debate events are single entry only. These events will run concurrently, and in order to provide for accurate power matching, we will not allow for cross-entry in these events. All entries must be into Tabroom by October 9th by 5pm CST. If you have a rough count on entries, but don’t want to put them in the system until the last minute, if would be very helpful if you could email me to give me some idea for ordering food.
No late entries will be accepted, only drops. Any drops after the deadline will be charged in full to the attending school. We must make food and room arrangements several days prior to the tournament, and cannot make changes in the days close to the tournament. In order to have the most accurate hired judging list possible, no late judging additions will be accepted, only substitutions for previously committed judges.
Debate
Policy Debate – We will be following the 2018-19 NFHS resolution. We will offer a varsity division (5 prelims) and a novice division (5 rounds). Varsity will hold 3 rounds Friday and 2 on Saturday, followed by elimination rounds. Novice will hold 3 rounds on Friday and two on Saturday, plus elimination rounds. Because we hope to see novice policy debaters from multiple circuits, novice packets/arguments may differ. We will ask all entrants to provide a case outline and a list of negative off-case arguments to be run. The time limits will be 8-3-5, with 8 minutes of preparation time per team. We will be power matching after round 2 in both divisions.
Lincoln Douglas Debate – We will be following the September/October LD topic. We will offer 5 rounds of preliminary rounds, followed by elimination rounds. Time limits are 6-3-7-3-4-6-3 with 4 minutes of preparation for each competitor.
Public Forum – We will offer 6 round of public forum debate on the October topic. We will have three debates Friday, and three on Saturday, followed by elimination rounds on Saturday. We will use a 4-4-3-4-4-3-2-2-3-1-1 time schedule, with two minutes of down time.
We will accelerate the schedule if possible, so please don’t leave the building
