HS Prepared Motions - Spring 2023

We will use the following prepared motions for WS Debate at our events in the second semester. We will be working on these at the January workshop as well.

• This House would ban lethal autonomous weapons

• This House believes that rehabilitation should be prioritized over retribution incriminal sentencing

• In art and popular culture, This House believes that creating new lead characters for minorities (e.g. Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is preferable to recasting them in existing roles already played by other actors/communities (e.g. Ghostbusters, The Little Mermaid).

• This House supports mandatory voting in national elections

February 11 - HS Tournament 4 - we will have 2 rounds on lethal autonomous weapons, 1 round on rehabilitation, and 1 impromptu round

March 4 - HS Tournament 5 - we will have 2 rounds on rehabilitation, 1 round on art/popular culture, and 1 impromptu round

April 15 - HS City Championship (prelims) - we will have 2 rounds on mandatory elections and 1 round on arts/culture. There will be 2 impromptu rounds - a prelim round and semis. Finals will be held on May 6 and will be determined by a coin flip - winner of the flip will choose the motion (from the four above) and loser of the flip will choose the side.
