Northern South Dakota District Qualifier

for the 2022 National Tournament

Breaking & Judge Strikes & Physical Tabroom

1. If there are 7 or fewer entries. There is no final and the 3 rounds determine the national qualifier. 

2. In Duo (9) and POI (8) 5 will break to finals. 

1. If there is a tie at 5 and 6 - we take 6

2. If there is a tie at 5, 6, and 7 we take 7. 

3. In Drama, Humor, Inform, IX, DX, Oratory 6 will break to finals. 

1. If there is a tie at 6, 7, 8. The cut off will be 5 entries in this event. 

2. If there is a tie at 6 and 7- 7 will make the finals. 

Judge Strikes: 

• If a debate has the possibility of being a national qualifier- judge strikes will happen

• If it is a final IE judge strike will happen 15 minutes before the round. 

• You get one strike per your competitor/team. Example- 3 finalists in Drama = you get 3 strikes.  

Tabroom:

• After each round, ballots and results will be posted online and outside of the tabroom. Coaches are allowed to view all ballots. This is for auditing purposes. It is hard to know if something went wrong- if you don’t get to see the ballots. 

• Tabroom is open. 

• We ask that discussion is done in a quiet tone in tabbing area. 

• Results will also be posted outside the tabroom. 

• Every coach has the right to know the prelim and final rankings during the tournament so you can make the best coaching decisions for your team. 

• If the tab staff is busy pairing, please wait to ask.

• All committee members have access to the tournament.
