Tournament Guidelines

1. TFA rules will be followed in all TFA events and in the novice divisions of those events.  The current NSDA topics will be used in all debate events.  Novice will use the varsity topic.

 

2.    Contestants must be accompanied by a coach or an approved adult sponsor.  Any team that is found to be in attendance without their sponsor present is subject to disqualification without refund of entry fee.  ONLY a team's coach or school district employee has standing to challenge results of the tournament.

 

3. Contestants may not enter both the novice and championship divisions of an event and may enter only one division of extemp.  Students may enter 2 events per pattern. Students may not cross-enter in Section C (except Duet/Duo).

 

4.    There will be a 30 second grace period in all events.

 

5.    A novice is any student beginning his/her first year of high school competition in the current school year.

 

6. Trophies and medals will be awarded for all events 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  

 

7.    Contestants should make an effort to notify their judges when they are cross-entered.  Tardiness to rounds may result in disqualification unless excused by the tournament director.

 

8. All food and drinks should be kept in the commons.

 

9.   The use of tobacco (in any form), drugs or alcohol by students is prohibited on all Katy ISD property including the parking lot and sidewalks.  This includes coaches. 

 

10.  Any defacing or damaging of school property will result in instant disqualification of that student. The incident will be reported to the authorities and students may be subject to arrest.

 

11.  Students may not enter contest rooms without a judge present.  Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification.
