VIRTUAL DEBATES

-- Judges should always have their camera on when a speech is happening

-- Students are asked to have cameras on for the debates -- tech issues can alter this but one should try

-- POI should be done via a hand or better is a note card which says POI.  The speaker can request verbal but otherwise the assumption is non-verbal POI given two people speaking on Zoom can create issues.

-- Blank google documents can be used during impromptu prep for team members to communicate in the impromptu prep room.

-- Naming conventions should be used by all persons. Students - Side -Team-Name (Judge-Team-Name or Coach-Team-Name)

Observers Policy and Entourage Judging Rule:

Observer Policy -- We will be adding a separate event where for no cost teams can add observers.  This must be adults out of high school. They can be coaches or parents, but only one per round per team, if a parent is watching then a coach cannot watch.  Our plan in all events is to allow two observers which would be one observer per team involved to observe in your own team's rounds.  We truly believe watching your debaters is critical for education and coaching. This policy will run thru prelims and elims.  We hope to live stream a good deal of rounds for debaters to observe.  To be an observer you must have signed up in the "observer" event and have a tabroom account.

Entourage -- If you are an observer and not a parent, we expect you to be in the judge pool for that event for 2 prelim rounds or 1 prelim round and the first elim round.  A flighted round (we are only doing a couple early PF and LD elim rounds) means you could judge two debates to cover this one round.

ELIM ROUNDS

Plan is to break all 4-2 teams. If teams from the same school debate each other they will be given the choice of having a debate or allowing the coach to determine the advancing team per that school's normal policies.

Motions

Round 1/2 -- This House Believes That nuclear energy should be promoted as a significant method of climate mitigation.

2nd Elim - THBT improving the culture of security institutions is best accomplished by including women in security forces rather than non-participation and outside protest.
