Regulations and Fees

Media Release Form:

All competitors must have a media release form on file with the tournament. Coaches can find the form on their registration page. 

 

Events: 

Section A: OO, DI, Duo, Poetry, POI 

Section B: USX, IX, HI, Prose, INFO, Duet 

Section C: VCX, NCX, VLD, NLD, PFD, Worlds, CON 

 

Brackets will not be broken in VCX, VLD, PFD and WSD.

 

Entry Rules: 

  1. Students may only enter one extemp event. 

  1. Students may enter up to three events in Section A and three events in Section B. 

  1. Students may only enter one event in Section C. 

  1. Students entered in Section C may only cross enter in Section B.   

  1. TFA rules for competition will be followed in all events. 

  1. No cross entries will be allowed for those entered in VCX or NCX. 

  1. No cross entries will be allowed for those entered in Worlds Debate. 

 

 

Definition of a Novice: 

A Novice is a student who has not competed in any debate during grades 9-12 (High School) prior to the 2021-22 school year. In CX and PFD, both competitors must meet this requirement. Violations will result in disqualification of the entry, and forfeiture of entry/judge fees. 

 

Resolutions and Legislation: 

We will use the November/December NSDA resolution for VLD and VLD. 

We will use the November NSDA resolution for PFD and NPFD. 

We will use the NSDA resolution for the 2021-22 school year for all CX debate. 

 

Entry Fees: 

DI, OO, Poetry, POI, USX, IX, Prose, HI, INFO: $10.00 per entry 

Duo and Duet: $10.00 per entry 

VCX and NCX: $50.00 per team 

VLD, NLD, PFD: $25.00 per entry/team 

Worlds Debate: $50.00 per team 

 

Congress: $10.00 per entry 

 

Judging Information: 

All judges from a school must be available for all prelims in his/her area of judging (IE, Debate, etc.). 

School judges will be used! If a school has entries that prohibit the use of a school judge in prelims, the school will be charged the uncovered judge fee for all entries in that event. 

We would rather have your judges than your money, so please cover as many of your entries as possible. If you would like help finding a judge, please contact Jordan Innerarity (jinnerarity@hockaday.orgfor help. 

 

All debate rounds will use Tabroom. All judges for debate will need a Tabroom account! 

 

Schools will be assessed a $100.00 no show fee per round if a judge fails to appear for his/her round. Please communicate with us if you have a judge who cannot appear.  

 

Judging Requirements: 

One judge is requirement for every two VCX or NCX teams, or portion thereof. One judge is required for every four VLD, NLD and PFD entries, or portion thereof. One judge is required for every eight Congress or Individual Events entries. 

 

Judges may only serve in their respective Sections. A debate judge cannot be used to satisfy requirements in Individual Events. 

 

No school may completely buy out their judging commitments in VCX, NCX, VLD, NLD, and PFD. A school must provide at least one judge to cover their obligations. 

 

All judges are obligated one round past the elimination the school they are judging for.  

 

All Worlds Debate entries must be accompanied by a judge. This judge will only be assigned to judge Worlds Debate, and cannot be used to cover other entries. 

 

Uncovered Judge Fees: 

VCX and NCX: $100.00 per uncovered entry 

VLD, NLD, PFD: $50.00 per uncovered entry 

Individual Events: $10.00 per uncovered entry 

Worlds Debate: $100.00 per uncovered entry 

 

 

Awards and Sweepstakes: 

 

We will offer awards for Quarters and above in all debate events. All IE finalists will receive an award. 

We will provide awards for the top 3 Speakers in all debate events. 

 

Sweepstakes points: 

Debate: 1st Place- 20 points, 2nd Place- 15 points, 3rd Place- 10 points. Non-advancing Quarterfinalists- 5 points, Other non-advancing elimination debates- 3 points. Each preliminary debate win- 1 point. 

 

All other events: 1st Place- 20 points, 2nd Place- 15 points, 3rd Place- 10 points, Non-placing finalists- 5 points. Non-advancing semifinalists- 3 points.
