Radio Broadcasting

New for 2013! We are offering Radio Broadcasting which will feature a 'blue-ribbon' panel of broadcasters as the final round panel. 

Round I: Commercial - Student will be provided a commercial script which they will read exactly as written.  Sample Script

Round II: Traffic & Weather - Student will be provided traffic and weather 'data' which they will work into a fluent presentation.  Sample Script

Round III: 3-minute news segment.  Student will be provided 'bytes' from the AP Newswire, along with a sponsor and 'news feature' which they will work into a fluent presentation. Sample Script

Final Round: 5-minute news program.  Student will be provided with news, traffic, weather, news feature, and commercial which they will edit into a five minute news program. Sample Script

JUDGE INSTRUCTIONS

Please allow only one student in the room at a time.  All others can wait outside the door.

2.   Direct student to a desk that is situated BEHIND YOURS.  This event is judged on vocal quality alone.

3.   For Rounds I, II, and III, present student with a copy of the script and begin timing.

4.   Give student verbal time signals in one-minute intervals.

5.   At five minutes, student should begin speaking.

6.   There is no time limit in rounds I or II.  There is a 3-minute time limit in round III, and a five–minute time limit in Finals. 

In rounds III and Finals, students should offer a creative opening/signoff and transitions between news items and other segments.  Students may also edit the script to fit the time frame; however,, all sections must be incorporated into the presentation.
