The 46th Winston Churchill Classic TOC and NIETOC Qualifier

2021 — San Antonio, TX/US

Awards and Trophy Information

One of our goals at Churchill has been to not just provide the best competition and judging possible, but also to reward competitors in a way that is special and reflects the unique history and traditions of Churchill High School. Last year, this resulted in us re-thinking and improving our sweepstakes awards to honor schools for their programmatic excellence. This year, we are proud to announce the beginning of a new tradition by switching our standard plastic trophies out for something much more emblematic of San Antonio heritage and culture, Fiesta medals.

Fiesta began in 1891 as a parade to recognize the Battle of the Alamo and San Jacinto but has since grown into a two-week long celebration of the culture, diversity, and springtime in San Antonio. While there are numerous Fiesta traditions, one of the most noticeable and unique are Fiesta medals. Each year, restaurants, businesses, and non-profits design and create custom medals that are collected by the general public. The proceeds from these medal sales are donated to charities and non-profits throughout the city.

As one of the largest and oldest speech and debate tournaments in the state, we are proud to share a little bit of this history and tradition with you and your students, and we hope that these trophies become unique reminders for your students’ successes. We are excited to be able to design a new and medal for each successive year so that each year at the Classic is special and unique for those who choose to attend. In the spirit of Fiesta and the yearly collection of medals, we will also be providing each school who enters students in the tournament with a medal so that they can start their own collection, or for our San Antonio coaches, so they can add a new medal to their yearly haul.

This means that you must fill out the refund information so that we know where to mail your school's medal and any additional awards your students may earn. No address, no medal.
