Jenks Novice Tournament

2025 — Jenks, OK/US

Hi, Friends! Jenks is hosting a novice tournament this year on September 19-20th. It’s meant to be a model tournament so that beginning students get an idea of what tournaments are like before they are at actual OSSAA tournaments competing.

On Friday, there will be three debate rounds. These will be ‘angel rounds’ in Round 1 & 2, where a varsity debater competes with the students to help them through the rounds step by step. Ideally, in Round 1 the varsity debater will help a lot. In Round 2 they will help a little. By Round 3 they will not help at all and students will make it through the rounds on their own.

On Saturday, we will be offering rounds in all OSSAA speech events. There will be one Prelim round, and then one Final round. Judges will be given some time in those rounds to talk to competitors at the end of the round about general skills and what they did well, and then will also be encouraged to give useful and positive feedback.

There will be awards!

This will be a live tournament at Jenks High School with rounds on Friday starting at 4:15 PM and rounds on Saturday starting at 9 AM.

Ideally, teams would bring enough varsity student judges and angels that no coaches/adults will need to do much once things get started.

Cost will be $2 per entry to cover the tabroom fees, and schools will be expected to provide judges who are trained and able to give helpful feedback to students. These judges can be adults or varsity competitors.
