Judges, drops, and name changes are due by 5pm Wednesday, Jan. 24 and fees and obligations freeze at 6pm that night. Any entries dropped after this date will be fined according to OSSAA guidelines.

Resolutions for all divisions of debate will be the following

Policy (‘23-’24 Resolution)

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income.

Lincoln-Douglas (Jan/Feb ‘24 Resolution)

Resolved: The United States ought to substantially reduce its military presence in the West Asia-North Africa region.

Public Forum (Jan ‘24 Resolution)

Resolved: The United States federal government should repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Ballots/Technology

We will be utilizing online balloting through Tabroom. Please make sure all your judges are set up on Tabroom and that everyone brings a device (computer, tablet, phone, etc.) on which to enter ballots.

NPS offers guest WiFi services in all schools. However, this is still a public school, so the guest WiFi isn’t great! We will not be able to offer hotspots so it may not be a bad idea to bring your own if you have one.

Judges

Judging Requirements adhere to OSSAA rules. Judges must be confirmed by 5pm on Wednesday. Please ensure that you indicate conflicts or gaps in your judges availability on your judging notes. If you need help with this, please email me!

Any school who fails to meet their required judge burden may be asked to trim entries in order to reflect the judges they are bringing.

Food

We will have a fully stocked concession stand and Judges’ Lounge for both Friday and Saturday.

Extemp draw and the awards ceremony will be held in the NHS theater – food and drink (except bottled water) is not permitted in our theater. Please eat beforehand and dispose of all food and drink before entering the theater.

Friday (this is different than last year)

Registration will start at 1:30pm in the Multipurpose Room (MPR). Teams and judges should arrive no later than 3:30pm and will need to wait in the MPR until school dismisses. Buses can drop off in our band parking lot on the north west side of the school (the lot next to the baseball field) and everyone arriving before dismissal will need to enter through Gate 13.

Classes dismiss at 4:05pm and debate rounds will start promptly at 4:15pm. Any judges arriving after rounds begin can park on the east side of the building and enter through door 36 (that faces Taco Casa).

I recommend telling your bus drivers to pick you up at door 36 Friday evening!

Saturday

Registration will begin at 7:15am, rounds will begin at 8am. Judges should be ON CAMPUS by 7:45 a.m. and report directly to their rounds. Parking and entrance location will be the east side of the school, facing Taco Casa.
