North Texas Novice Celebration

2024 — The Colony, TX/US

Unfortunately, due to a lack of entries, we will be cancelling the novice tournament this year.

===========================

Greetings everyone!

Welcome to the first North Texas Novice Celebration! A joint venture between The Colony HS and Hebron HS with Eric Mears, from Flower Mound, helping with the tab room! The North Texas Novice Celebration will be just that - a celebration of novice competitors AND novice judges.

We hope your team will join us on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at The Colony High School to give students brand new to speech and debate (this semester) or who have only been competing since August 2023 a chance to compete with true peers. It is also an opportunity for varsity students to serve as judges for events. For this tournament, varsity judges are those students who have competed for two years or more in the event they wish to judge.

The Tournament will be held at The Colony High School, 4351 Blair Oaks Dr., The Colony, TX 75056. BUT - payment will be remitted to Hawk Debate Booster Club. It will run from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Extemp draw will begin promptly at 8:00 AM in Room A107.

EVENTS

Congress (TFA Spring Docket, Round 1 is Items 1-3, Round 2 is Items 4-6, Round 3 is Items 7-9), LD, DI, Duo, Extemp, HI, Impromptu, Informative Speaking, OO, Poetry and Prose.

SCHEDULE

Please see the Schedule page for information.

SCHOOL TEAM/COMPETITION ROOMS

Because there will be another large event simultaneously taking place at The Colony HS, school teams will be assigned a specific room to "camp" in for the duration of the tournament. We respectfully ask that students remain in their assigned team rooms until it is time for them to compete. School team rooms will be in the downstairs classrooms at TCHS and competition rooms will be upstairs. School team rooms will be assigned and communicated prior to and at the tournament.

HOSPITALITY

The Colony HS is proud to host coaches and judges in the Library on the main floor. Tabroom will be hosted here as well. A light breakfast will provided as well as a nice lunch. No dinner will be provided.

CONCESSIONS

We will offer concessions for students to purchase snacks and lunch. TCHS is partnering with Domino's for this tournament and they are offering two opportunities for lunch. Your team can order a large pizza for $10 (or order more for $10 each) OR students can purchase a combo meal of 1 large slice pizza, chips and drink for $6. There will be a separate email with a Google form to fill out with each school's lunch preference. Coaches and judges will have lunch provided in the Hospitality room (Library).

AWARDS

There will be no formal awards ceremony. Coaches will be able to pick up their medals in the Library by 5:00 PM.
