The Tournament of Champions at Carroll College will again be hosted this year on the first weekend of December and will include varsity and novice debate- both LD and policy. We are offering one division of Public Forum. Schools may enter 4 varsity policy; 4 novice policy; 4 varsity LD; 4 novice LD and 4 Public Forum. You may apply for extra slots, if space permits.

Speech and drama on TABROOM.COM: “The Valley of Gold”

Entry fee is as follows.

Policy & Public Forum: $15 per team LD: $10 per team

School Fee: $20

Drops after 11 p.m. Weds., Nov. 22: $20 per entry penalty, plus the entry fee.

Policy: The US federal government should substantially increase fiscal redistribution in the United States by adopting a federal jobs guarantee, expanding Social Security, and/or providing a basic income..

LD: Resolved: The US ought to prohibit the extraction of fossil fuels from federal public lands and waters.

Forum: Resolved: The United States federal government should forgive all federal student loan debt.

¨ We will allow electronic evidence and laptops for evidence in debate. NSDA laptop rules.

¨ We will follow Montana High School Association (MHSA) rules of evidence.

¨ Sweepstakes: policy octo, 5; policy quarters, 10; policy semis, 15; policy finals, 20; policy, 1st, 25; LD&PF Oct 2.5; LD & PF Q, 5; LD/PF semis, 7.5; LD/PF finals, 10; LD/PF 1st, 12.5.

¨ Coaches will be encouraged to judge – and will be fed well. Bring extra judges, please – the last edition of this tournament was huge and we used every judge available.

¨ Prep time: Policy 8 minutes, LD 4 Minutes, PF 3 minutes.

¨ Awards are scheduled to begin no later than 7 p.m. Saturday, to allow an 8 p.m. departure for all schools NOT debating in a final round (which may occur after awards).

¨ Tab: Brent, Carroll, chair; Adam, Bozeman; Steve, Billings West; Kelli, Flathead.

As usual we offer: good judging, a computerized tab room, warm hospitality for coaches and classy awards befitting the fine debaters you always bring to our tournament. We offer speaker awards in all divisions of debate. We also will offer school sweepstakes awards and three traveling trophies. Closed tabroom, per Carroll tradition. But open hearts.

Registration IN PERSON: Friday, Noon-1:30 p.m. at Forensics Room in Borromeo Hall

Friday, December 1:

RD 1: 3 p.m.

RD 2: 5 p.m.

RD 3: 7 p.m.

Saturday, December 2:

RD 4: 8 a.m.

RD 5: 10 a.m.

College Fair, CUBE: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Outround I: 1 p.m.

Outround II: 3 p.m.

Outround III: 5 p.m.

Awards: 7 p.m.
