Trevian Invitational

2021 — NSDA Campus, US

Dear coaches,

We invite you and your policy debaters to participate in the 2021 Trevian Invitational, which will be hosted virtually using NSDA classroom.

Our tournament remains a quarterfinals bid to the Tournament of Champions in policy debate.

Last year we created two division: one for national circuit varsity debating (the "TOC bid division") and one as a catch all for other varsity competitors. This year we will be running one varsity division.

With some feedback from schools, we decided to add a one day novice policy scrimmage during the tournament. There is a need to support novices with easily accessible one day competitions as opposed to the 3 day model. The scrimmage is going to follow some of the norms that we have practices in the Chicagoland area: namely, that we will be limiting argument sets on the negative. Please see the description of the novice scrimmage for details.

We are also running a one day Congressional scrimmage. Typically, this has been for local schools whose debaters would like a less competitive environment to showcase their Congressional debating. It is intended to be a fun, engaging, one day event, rather than a full service division.

Our goal has been and continues to be providing you all with the best tournament experience possible. We hope that you will find our changes to be beneficial to your health, work/life balance, and enjoyment of the competition.

Sincerely,
