Dear Coach and Team:

The Grain Valley High School Speech and Debate Team cordially invites you to our 5th annual New Year Novice Kickoff Classic to be held virtually between January 3rd & 9th, 2021. We are pleased to partner with Fort Osage High School again to offer both Varsity (Fort Osage and a NIETOC Qualifier) and Novice Grain Valley High School competitions.  We will be accepting 1st AND 2nd year competitors as Novice this year. 

Grain Valley will host the following Novice IE Events asynchronously on January 3rd-7th, 2021: 

Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Prose Reading, Poetry Reading, Storytelling, International Extemp, U.S. Extemp, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, and Student Congress. 

We will host the following Debate Events synchronously through NSDA Campus/Tabroom on Jan 8th and 9th: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, and Policy Debate. Reminder: Novice Policy Debate will no longer be restricted to the Novice Case limitations as we are starting the 2nd Semester. 

Individual Events will have two preliminary rounds, breaking to semifinals and finals. We will use the NSDA Pilot Rules in Public Forum Debate. Congress will have two preliminary sessions breaking to a final one-part Super Session during IE Finals. We will use the December NSDA Congress Packet for Legislation.

The deadline for receiving entries on Tabroom.com will be Friday December 18th, 2020 at 3:00PM.  Asynchronous speech links (unlisted YouTube or Google Drive videos) are appreciated by 3:00PM on Tuesday December 22nd, 2020 or by the final deadline of Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 .  All entries will be waitlisted upon entry – we will grant what we can accommodate during the day on December 21/22.  Entry fees will be $6.00/entry.  No trophies will be given but certificates will be sent for students placing.
