La Reina Invitational Tournament

2020 — Online, CA/US

Dear Coach:

The La Reina School Debate Team enthusiastically invites you and your squad to participate in our Fifth Annual Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament to be held on Saturday-Sunday, December 5-6, 2020 via Zoom.  Students can double enter within the Events pattern but not in the Debate pattern. Debate will be divided into a Varsity, Novice and Middle School divisions. Middle School students can compete in any division.

Due to the size of the La Reina School program, we may limit the total entry into the tournament at some point prior to the published deadline to registration, so early registration is advised.

We will have Open and Novice and Middle School divisions in the September/October NSDA for LD topic and Public Forum (and thus we will not be using the Nov/Dec Ld or PoFo topics for this tournament). Parliamentary debate will have open prep with one topic per round.  If we double flight, we'll announce two different topics.  One for Flight A and one for Flight B.

All Individual Events will be combined into one pattern to make the schedule more efficient. Events will be performed live online. Double entries in Events are allowed.

We will also offer Open, Novice and Middle School Divisions of Student Congress.  Middle School students are welcome to compete in either division.

NOTE: Novices are students who have competed in six or fewer  tournaments.  Events will have Open and Novice Divisions.

Entries will only be accepted on-line at the new site: tabroom.com.

It will take you a few minutes to set up your school's account, but once that is done the system is a breeze. Plus, the system will enter all your judges and competitors - so when you enter the next tournament that uses this system you will not have to type the judges and competitors names again. You will also be able to make changes to your entry up to noon Tuesday, December 2, 2020, with no additional fees.  If you are new to the online system, you will need to first "Set up a new account" for your school. After the account is set up, go to "Tournament Calendar" and it will let you click on "Entry." Often you need to select number of slots first and names second.

Deadlines

The system will accept entries and changes until Tuesday, December 2, 2020. Make drops and adds on the web page. As of noon Tuesday, December 2, 2020 fees will be set and changes will not be allowed on-line. If you have drops after that date, please email them to me at Mconrad@lareina.com after Tuesday, December 2, 2020 at 6pm will be charged a $10 nuisance fee. All space in debate and events will be allocated on a first come, first served basis; register early.

Judges

Schools need to provide at least 50% of their judging obligation. Each judge covers two teams (Parli or Policy) or four Public Forum teams or four Lincoln Douglas debaters/duo entries or six event entries in Congress/Events. Please email if you have questions about your judging requirements. Schools will pay a judging penalty fee per event slot, Congress entry, Lincoln Douglas/Duo Interp or debate team not covered by school provided judges.  Varsity debaters in their senior year can judge Novice division students.
