Oktoberfest

2020 — NSDA Campus, OR/US

Neah-Kah-Nie High School

 Oktoberfest Online Tournament

 Saturday October 31, 2020

Neah-Kah-Nie High School is excited to formally invite you to join us for this year’s Oktoberfest Tournament! This is a fun Halloween-themed competition where students get to dress up in costumes and compete. We will offer all regular Oregon Speech and Debate events except Congress. Oktoberfest is a great environment for veterans and novices alike to try out their new pieces and topics, while in whimsical or spooky attire! We are particularly thrilled to host our tournament on the holiday itself, as this year will certainly prove to be a Halloween like no other.

Entries: Novice and Open divisions will be available in all events. In some cases, we may need to collapse Novice and Open, but we will still recognize each division in awards. We will be following OSAA State Rules for all events.

Costumes: All competitors are required to wear a costume to compete. While we want everyone to have fun and express themselves, please keep in mind that this is a school function. Masks will not be allowed. Traditionally, prizes have been awarded for best costumes during awards, and we will try and see if there is a way to do this in the online format.

Fees: Keeping the tournament financially accessible is important to us. The School Fee will be $25.00, IE fees are $5.00 per entry (Duo is one entry), and Debate fees are $8.00 each team.

Double Entries: Students can be double-entered for two asynchronous IE events, but can only be entered in one synchronous IE event and one debate event.

Deadlines: Registration opens October 3rd on Tabroom, and the system will stop allowing new entries at 11:55 pm on Monday, October 26th. Having accurate entries at the start of the week will be crucial to ording rooms on NSDA Campus, so please be timely and try to make as few changes as possible that week.

Judges: One judge will cover 4 entries. Make sure you include specific times that your judges will be available online. Although we don’t fine for uncovered entries, if you are unable to have enough judges show up for the tournament we will be forced to drop entries. All judges must have linked Tabroom accounts, and all morning judges MUST be present for the 8:00 Judge’s Orientation.

These are the events live and recorded. They are subject to change.

LIVE (synchronous) - ADS, DUO, EXTEMP, IMPROMPTU, POETRY, PROSE, POI

RECORDED (asynchronous) - D.I., H.I., INFORMATIVE, ORATORY, RADIO

For asynchronous entries:  Competitors will record a video of their performance and provide a viewable link to their coaches. Coaches will upload this link in the Entry Details section on Tabroom (click the Edit button next to each entry from the Entry tab and paste the link in the "Link to performance video" box).  If you are uploading to YouTube, students/coaches should make sure that the video privacy is set to "UNLISTED" as opposed to "PRIVATE".  Students may also record via Loom, upload a file to Google Drive, or some other method.  But, students should make sure that their videos can be accessed/viewed by those who have the link.

DEBATE (synchronous) - LD, PARLI, PO FO, POLICY

NOTE: We will use Sept./Oct. debate topics for PF, Policy, and LD debate. For Novice LD, we will be using the Novice topic (civil disobedience in a democracy).
