Abbeville High School SpeechDebate Tournament
2019 — Abbeville, LA/US
Advanced Lincoln Douglas
Event Description:
1. The resolution to be debated will be a proposition of value, rather than a proposition of policy. Thus, debaters are encouraged to
analyze competing values underlying basic principles of human conduct. The debaters should attempt to prove the
resolution true or false in the majority of cases and not concentrate on a few isolated issues.
2. In making your decision, you should set aside personally-held values and ask yourself the following questions:
a. Which of the debaters persuaded you that their position was more valid (Which communicated more effectively?)
b. Did the debaters support their position appropriately, using logical argumentation throughout, & evidence where
necessary?
c. Which of the debaters defended their own arguments & clashed with the opponent’s arguments more effectively?
d. Which of the debaters developed the debate’s major issues in greater depth?
