Event Description:

Congressional debate is a mock version of the United States Congress. Students will debate different pieces of legislation and argue for or against them, at the students own choosing. Optionally, students can propose their own pieces of legislation. Rounds will begin with the election of a Presiding Officer (PO) to facilitate debate and select people to speak. Speakers will give their respective speeches and answer questions regarding their speech and the legislation after. OHSSL rules will be followed. Speech Times: 3 minutes (w/ a 10 sec. grace); Questioning: 2 minutes for the first affirmation and first negation speech & 1 minute for all others. Competitors will vote on the form of questioning they would like to use in round. Please upload legislation to tabroom.com no later than 5 pm on Tuesday, January 30.
