Dallastown Wildcat Invitational

2014 — PA/US

Parliamentary Debate [BRACKET B]

Abbreviation Parli
Format Debate
Entry Fee $0.00 (Plus $12/student)
Entry Teams of between 2 and 3 competitors

Event Description:

Parliamentary Debate will be scheduled on the bracket system, giving debaters a rare opportunity for multiple-entry. Parli contestants MAY enter one or two Bracket A events (including speech events, Congressional Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, or Policy Debate), but they MAY NOT enter a second Bracket B event.  All Parliamentary Debaters may also enter a supplemental event.

While we will largely follow the PHSSL rules for this event (which can be found at www.phssl.org/pdf/ParliamentaryDebateGuide.pdf), Parliamentary Debate at the Wildcat Invitation will have two distinctive features with the aim of encouraging broader participation:

  1. Rounds will alternate between impromptu debates and prepared debates in the ordinary fashion; however, the prepared topic used at this tournament will be the November Public Forum resolutionwhich will be announced on October 1 at www.nationalforensicleague.org/aspx/nav.aspx?navid=227&pnavID=175.

  2. While the speech times will not be changed, we will allow teams comprised of either two or three members to enter this division.  (Students on a two-person team will give alternating speeches.)

Since we will NOT be offering Public Forum this year, students who ordinarily compete in PF are encouraged to try out this new debate format!

Each school must bring one qualified adult debate judge for every 3 competitors (or fraction thereof) entered Lincoln-Douglas Debate and/or Parliamentary Debate.
